Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, 245 educational institutions in the capital have sustained damage. As of August this year, nearly 70% of these have been restored.
According to Ukrinform, this information was reported by the Kyiv City State Administration.
Deputy Head of the KMDA Valentyn Mondryivskyi emphasized that repair efforts for educational facilities damaged by Russian aggression are funded by the municipal budget and supported by international partners.
He noted that priority is given to fixing roofs, windows, heating systems, and water supply networks to ensure safe conditions for students and staff.
During 2024–2025, restoration work was completed at 168 institutions, including schools, kindergartens, and extracurricular centers. Repairs are ongoing at 45 sites, while others remain in the design phase or await funding.
«Kyiv residents vividly remember two tragic summer dates — July 17 and 31. These days saw the highest civilian casualties and destruction of infrastructure, including 47 educational facilities. Not all have been restored, as the process requires time and procedural compliance. However, adjustments to schooling formats will ensure all students begin the academic year,» clarified Mondryivskyi.
In parallel with reconstruction, shelters continue to be equipped, alongside upgrades to classrooms and athletic facilities.
As previously reported by Ukrinform, the combined Russian attack on July 31 resulted in 179 injuries and 31 fatalities in Kyiv.
